Kava extract simple recipe: make your own

For the most bio-active topical Kava extract we want to extract it with alcohol (vodka) rather than water.

Measure up 3/4 – 1 cup Kava powder (as obtained from Mountain Rose Herbs, Starwest Botanicals, or Monterey Bay Spice Co.). Place in an empty quart jar.

Pour 14-16 oz vodka over this and stir it in very well so that the Kava powder is saturated.

Close jar tightly enough so it will not leak when shaken. Keep in a warm place.

Shake the mixture thoroughly and often. Each time the kava powder settles to the bottom it can be shaken up again. Let it extract for 2-3 days until the vodka extraction on top of the powder is darker in color than the powdered herb material, but is getting no darker.

Strain this mixture well through a filter bag, squeezing as needed until powder is pretty dry.

Pour over same amount of Kava powder as before. Add more vodka if needed for same volume of mixture as before.

Shake the mixture thoroughly and often for 1-3 days.

Strain the mixture through a filter bag as before, squeezing as before.

Pour into a shallow steel pan sitting on a stove top burner set very low — just warm. Leave this on the warm burner for several hours, checking often until the vodka has evaporated to leave only 2-4 oz extract.

Decant into dropper bottle(s).

Apply as needed topically to areas of muscle spasms, knots, painful joints/back, etc.

When rubbed well all along the spine this Kava extract can bring deep relaxation, pain relief, and relief of sublaxations of the spine.
