Leonard Nimoy died today at 83. He will be missed especially by we Star Trek and Sci-fi fans. For me his most interesting role post-Spock was as the mysterious Dr. William Bell in the TV series Fringe.
The rectification challenge
– Mary MacKenzie quotes a letter from his mom in Mercury Hour 7/1983, “between 8:00 and 9:00 AM.”
– Marion March quotes him on a TV show that he was an Aries with Scorpio rising, which equates to between 8:00 and 9:00 PM.
That show was the History channel’s In Search of series episode on Astrology where Nimoy states about two minutes in, “… and I’m an Aries with Scorpio rising …”
Which time quote is more believable and why?
Bio notes from wikipedia
Nimoy was born on March 26, 1931 in the West End of Boston, Massachusetts, the son of Yiddish-speaking Orthodox Jewish immigrants from Iziaslav, Soviet Union (now Ukraine). His parents left Iziaslav separately—his father first walking over the border into Poland—and reunited in the United States. His mother, Dora (née Spinner), was a homemaker, and his father, Max Nimoy, owned a barbershop in the Mattapan section of the city.
Nimoy was married twice. In 1954, he married actress Sandra Zober (1927–2011), whom he divorced in 1987. On New Year’s Day of 1989, he married actress Susan Bay, cousin of director Michael Bay. Leonard Nimoy had a second cousin in voice actor Jeff Nimoy (once removed) and other cousins working in the art, education, design and health industries.
He has said that the character of Spock, which he played twelve to fourteen hours a day, five days a week, influenced his personality in private life. Each weekend during the original run of the series, he would be in character throughout Saturday and into Sunday, behaving more like Spock than himself: more logical, more rational, more thoughtful, less emotional and finding a calm in every situation. It was only on Sunday in the early afternoon that Spock’s influence on his behavior would fade off and he would feel more himself again – only to start the cycle over again, on Monday morning.
He remained good friends with co-star William Shatner (also of Ukrainian Jewish descent) and was best man at Shatner’s third marriage in 1997. He also remained good friends with DeForest Kelley until Kelley’s death in 1999. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leonard_Nimoy
1. What is rising sign seems more fitting and why?
At this time I have not worked with Nimoy’s chart at all, only collected this information for this blog.
Follow up: March 1st.
First, there is no indication in his facial outline of a fixed sign or planets of fixity affecting his Asc by angular aspect. Instead, his face bears the narrow/tapering/elongated outline of a mutable sign like Gemini or possibly a cardinal sign. However, it must be pointed out that Nimoy was born with 8 planets in cardinal signs, including Mercury, ruler of Gemini and Mars (personal ruler of Scorpio).
In addition, his sudden split from first wife Sandra is far more the behavior of a flexible, changeable mutable type or air type than the set loyalties of a fixed sign like Scorpio. Not a guarantee, just tendencies adding up.
Here are the noon planetary positions for both of Nimoy’s wives (PST since I don’t know their birth locations).
|Sandra Zober||Susan Bay|
Notice Sandra’s Sun at about 24 Sagittarius and her North Node at 18GEM41. This sets a potential range for Leonard’s Asc. Notice Susan’s Sun at 25 Pisces. Notice also her Jupiter at nearly 23 North declination, which is the declination range of Ascendants from late Gemini to early Cancer.
The ONLY indicator for a possible Asc for Leonard along the Taurus/Scorpio axis comes from Sandra’s Venus at about 9° Scorpio / 12 South. This could be equally indicative of an Asc for Leonard in late Libra or Aries, especially when you look at Sandra’s Neptune position at 29LEO08 / 12N15, which would both sextile and contra-parallel a very late Libra Asc for Nimoy.
In addition, Venus was at 19° Sagittarius / 22 South on the day her married his second wife, Susan, which was New Years Day 1989. Other planets were in range of a 7th house area of a late Gemini chart that day: Sun, Mercury, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, all between 22° and 23°39 South declination, further indicating an Asc in Gemini.
However, I cannot yet eliminate Scorpio as his Asc sign. There are a few possibilities, but none falling within the 8-9 PM time range suggested. I also cannot eliminate a very late Libra chart which would fall within that time range. So far, that is the one that looks most promising, Asc 29 Libra.
