Updating the Language of Astrology

One of the reasons astrology and astrologers do not enjoy more credibility and flourish more in modern societies is the language used by them has not been updated. Reaching back to the practices and terms of Hellenistic astrology has not helped matters.

Citizens of modern societies in which democracy is esteemed as the best form of government with its emphasis on individual empowerment, and in which monarchy and elitism are eschewed do not make a good audience for practices that rely on terms like “rule” “rulership” “lord of”, etc. People increasingly want to believe they are the masters of their own destinies and will discredit any belief or practice that runs interference with this.

Drop the “Lords” and “Rulers.” Medieval Times are over and so is monarchy.

I have taken to using the terms planetary prinicple and significator to refer to the appropriate planetary principle of a certain sign, say Mars for Aries.

Clinging to the old terms for old time’s sake just doesn’t make sense. Dropping these old, worn out, inappropriate terms will put astrology back on better footing with empowered, free people — so long as there is also a change in philosophy and values along with it.

The notion that any planet “rules” human life or human affairs is a displacement of power away from the individual, thus removing responsibility.

Astrologers who encourage responsibility and personal empowerment yet continue to use the old language which implies that you don’t completely determine your own outcomes is living and practicing astrology in contradiction. Personally, I would never go to such an astrologer. I don’t blame you if you don’t.

Let’s get back to Know Thyself and drop whatever interferes with that.

After all — modern physics has shown us that under everything is simply energy

The various planets of our solar system simply are frequency-specific parts of a whole. Those particular planet frequencies (vibrations) correlate to particular signs or other astrological factors. We choose certain astrological factors as background conditions when we incarnate so that we can round out ourselves as souls as we experience life on Earth.

How can we think Mars made me do it if it was ‘me’ that chose that timing and that influence to be stronger than the others? Better to say “I didn’t handle my aggressive energies very well” and take responsibility.

Best to change our astrologese to reflect this as well. “Ruler” and “Rulerships” and “Lords” are from a bygone era. Maybe it holds sentimental value to some. I don’t share that sentiment.

What other ways can we change astrologese to reflect the reality that it is all energy and our free will gives it permission?
