The Astrology of What’s Going on Now

The news headlines are full of the strife in the middle east and now middle America. What the heck is going on?

First, understand it is a process that will pass.

It will reach a climactic point, create a new socio-economic set-point and settle down. We can really only understand any of this if we can see a direction things are moving in.

A Crisis of Empowerment

The world is reaching an empowerment crisis that is heading towards a peak starting in early 2019. We are now in the window of opportunity to reset the standard to live up to a higher ideal. Currently the strongest astrological dynamic in play is Uranus (16°04′ Aries) square Pluto (11°12′ Capricorn). This Uranus square Pluto aspect peaks later this year and early next year.

Uranus in Aries is a dissonant vibration in which collective benefit and personal liberties seem at odds and irreconcilable. Pluto in Capricorn is a dissonant vibration in which power is confused with control of others and paternalism fights to keep its footing.

This means the proverbial scathological matter is hitting the fan. We will see the ugliness before it gets better. That’s the way it has to work.

These dissonant vibrations urge integration and reconciliation.

Brief History of Uranus-Pluto Aspects

Uranus and Pluto were previously at a square aspect 1932-33 in the depression era following the 1929 stock market crash. In the USA it brought about a change in the balance of federal power to the states and individual citizens.

Uranus was conjunct Pluto (1967-69) in the period of the Summer of Love and the peak of the counter-culture backlash at the political protests at the 1968 Democratic Convention. This was a backlash against the war machine for its war in Vietnam.

Now Is The Time for Setting Our Intention

Now is the time to see and understand spiritually and make the necessary adjustments in our own lives to avoid the harder crunch later. In doing this we are also co-creating an outcome for humanity that will put the world onto a better future track.

Setting our intention means not only holding a visual image of a better world, but living guided by a personal ideal. It means also verbalizing what is consistent with this vision and ideal. For many of us it may mean literally turning off the boob tube and pushing away the news headlines to leave room for visualizing what we hold as our target.

Pluto’s Timing of Power Resets

Each year Pluto is slowly dipping further and further into south declination. (It is now at 20°30′ south). The extremes of declination are at the far north and south ends of a circle drawn by the sun’s path (ecliptic). Its furthest reach is 23°26′ north and 23°26′ south. Beyond this are the extremes of declination, also known as “out of bounds” (OOB). In August 2026 Pluto (in early Aquarius) will cross the ecliptic into extreme south declination (23°27′).

It is during these extreme positions of Pluto that our collective urges for conflict and empowerment hit a climax during its extremes in north declination. During its extremes in southern declination Pluto urges us to take more drastic measures to settle conflicts within ourselves or within our personal relations, to empower ourselves internally.

Some History for Background

The 18th century revolutions happened during Pluto’s last dip into far south declination, in late Capricorn and into Aquarius. The American Revolutionary War began (April 1775) when Pluto was 23°11′ south nearing extreme declination. It did not end until (April 1783) when Pluto was at extreme declination 23°49′ south. This (negative polarity) was an empowerment of personal freedom with ideals aimed at “All created equal” which by necessity requires a reset in the outward political context. The individual was given new hope with a higher expectation for the “pursuit of happiness.”

Some Sign Interpretation

Political power struggles reach extremes at these points. When Pluto is in the sign of Capricorn it challenges us to realize the depth of personal power as seeded in the physics of our biology; to become the paternal guide of self; to consider the “God eternal within the body” and relocate our power center to the divine within. (See Gregg Braden’s The God Code: http://www.greggbraden.com/books-audios-videos/featured-products/page:2)

When Pluto is in in Aquarius, it challenges us to find balance in our social values, so we allow others the freedom we give ourselves; that our outer lives and social values are consistent with our inner lives and personal values; to externalize our growth in a positive way for the collective empowerment without preferences.

We are challenged to find balance for our strongest, most irrational unconscious urges.

Empowerment is Destruction, Then Rebuilding

For comparison, let’s look at Pluto at its extreme of north declination. This is when empowerment issues take on the positive polarity of masculine outward expression. In September 1939 Pluto was at 23°07′ north when World War II broke out. That war ended September 1945 when Pluto was at 23°19′ north.

Pluto’s furthest extreme during that period was beyond 24° north during the rebuilding of Europe and the rise of the two superpowers, the USSR and the USA. The old WWI era fragile balance of power with its overlapping treaties and quilt-work of tiny empires was over and the ultimate face-off began between two powers who grew more powerful during this global conflict.

The Window of Opportunity is Now

This is the period in which we prepare and make changes so that what is presented on the world stage can be worthy of our applause.

Do you want peace and global cooperation? If so, it requires stepping up above the survival drives to see each part of our lives in terms of mutual benefit and applying ourselves towards a personal guiding ideal that includes peace and cooperation.

Depiction of Laozi in E.T.C. Werner's Myths and Legends of China. If there is to be peace in the world,
There must be peace in the nations.
If there is to be peace in the nations,
There must be peace in the cities.
If there is to be peace in the cities,
There must be peace between neighbors.
If there is to be peace between neighbors,
There must be peace in the home.
If there is to be peace in the home,
There must be peace in the heart.

The Timing of the Climactic Moment of Coming History

In July 2024 Pluto will cross 23° south declination and what we have processed and put into motion in our personal lives, politics and social values will present itself dramatically on the world stage. What do you want that to look like?

Personal Application

All this global history is given here as analogy for personal application. It demonstrates Pluto’s cycle of urging empowerment in stages through conflict, resolution, rebuilding and a new plane of power balance. However, the astrological factors do not create outcomes. We do cooperatively.

Personal power first lies in our willingness to change what no longer benefits us and to resolve conflicts peacefully. To escalate disagreement and resentment brings unnecessary losses and sorrows.

What conflicts exist within ourselves and with those in our lives? To clear those from our hearts and minds liberates us to envision a better world in which peace and prosperity are available for all.

Let the Ugliness Lead You to Follow a Higher Ideal

In our personal lives we can avoid the difficulties that spring from poor cross-cultural understanding, poor communication and desire for dominance over others. What humans allow in groups we need not engage in ourselves, but can rise above.

Where the world showed much prejudice and racism in its previous conflicts, we can choose to accept all as part of our human family. We can contribute towards a global reunion of humanity, awkward though it may be at times.

Where the world showed many nations with a collective air of superiority and lust for dominance, we can choose to believe that immortal ideal penned high up the United States Declaration of Independence, “All men are created equal” and practice it in our attitudes of daily living.

Where the nations of the world built up arsenals of weapons of war, instead we can create greater tools of peace, build up networks of brotherhood, acceptance and mutual support which develop tools for peaceful living.

In short, we can learn to take control of ourselves instead of seeking to control others. We can learn to purify our sense of personal power of all fear and resentment.

But it requires living more closely to the ideal of peace.
